Here's Where You Ask, and I Answer (to the best of my ability)
Dear Ginny,
Lately I've been fighting a lot with my parents, and I haven't been getting along with my friends. I also have trouble concentrating on schoolwork because I'm so worried about everyone else. -Kay | Kay,
Think of why you're fighting with your parents, is it because you are taking out your frustrations on them, or because of something else? Try talking to them instead of yelling, or telling them what's going on in your life. As for your friends, maybe its time to spread your wings a little and make new friends. Sometimes there isn't anything you can do accept let people go, even if it's hard at the time or you're unsure. I'm sure you'll find that after you figure this out, school will be easier to focus on (which may also help get your parents off your back). -G |
G,
I'm 12 and I don't like how I look, and it makes me feel bad about myself. I used to have a lot of friends, but lately I've been so self-absorbed and sad that hardly any of them will talk to me. I don't want to feel like this forever, but I don't know how to feel better about how I look. -Catie | Catie,
One of my teachers at school suggested that we write down five things about ourselves that we like or do well, and that can help us feel better about who we are. I've found that it has helped in my life, so give it a try. It can be a simple as saying that you like the colour of your eyes, or that you are really good at math. I'm sure you'll find that if you remind yourself of these things you'll start to feel happy and more outgoing. You can also try talking you mom or a guidance counselor, they can be really insightful about how to get through this. -G |
